No Featured Merchants Have This Item New - Check All Merchants Customer Reviews Geocaching heaven in my Axim X51vThis unit is fantastic! What a steal at $50 for GPS in my handheld. I was worried after reading the other review about crashing their Axim, however, they must've fixed it because it works flawlessly in my X51V.
Satellite acquisition is about as "instant" as you could get. Location is deadly accurate. I was online utilizing PocketPC Google Maps and switched to satellite view, and bingo, there was the little dot right on my house. :)
Used it to mark a 40 mile trip and it worked great inside the car without the use of an external antenna. This is a must for PPC owner that wants GPS capability.
This along with GPS Tuner and you have a phenominal GPS device for hiking, biking, geocaching and camping.
No tech supportI bought an GM270 and the Iguidance software based on the first review posted here, and the dang thing is only good for skipping on the water.
Holux is a sham, they do NOT provide ANY support for the piece of junk they sell.
Once inserted in the dell x51v adn installed their GPSviewer software, (which is their testing/demo program) all I get is that GPSviewer.exe fails to open half the com ports, and the device is NOT on any of the ones it CAN open. (and how the heck are we supposed to know what baud rate we shpould use, is it still 1978??)
GM-270 and anything-Holux in general should be considered an utter waster of time and money.
Amazing deviceThis is the CF GPS to buy if you are looking for a cheap and very reliable GPS solution (as reliable as the $500 ones). I have a dinosaur PDA. Audiovox Maestro/ thoshiba e570. With only 32MB Volatile Ram this is a poor choice for GPS. but its great with the memory options Sd/ and CF card.
I am using 1gb SD card.
Software collection
Iguidance (primary) awesome software.
TomTOM Not that good
Delorme Street Handheld ( poor for the road)
Delorme TOPO USA > Awesome for hiking.
Navigator SO/SO
MS Pocket map and trips.. Awesome for POI and details in depth. But no gudiance or nav available
All these softwares work smoothly with The GPS>>
My brother uses a $500 GPS and after using mine, He admitted that Holux Gm-270 with Iguidance is as good as the 500$ ones.
No Cons at all . all pros for this baby. I get fix in my room....you should too . get this and stop looking for expensive navigation solutions.
Great Great Buy.
works with lots of stuffThis device is nothing spectacular, but it works in everything. I've got it working in
-zaurus sl5500 (linux palmtop, /dev/ttyS3, qpegps, rom 3.10)
-windows 2k pro (pcmcia adaptor, laptop)
-ubuntu linux 5.10 (same laptop, /dev/ttyS0, gpsdrive)
It doesn't get a fix inside (most) buildings, and backseats of moving vehicles, apparently. It's not totally accurate. I'm holding back a star after seeing it give readings that jump around a half block radius of being right. After a more thorough run, i found out that if standing still, the unit vascillates within 10 meters of accuracy, occassionally jumping 50 meters off. A bit of staying outside and moving around seems to set things straight.
The card juts out a bit from the cf slot, looks a tad awkward, but fits around the lid of a zaurus sl5500 very well.
-update: hey hey wow. I just got a fix inside a jet, made a neat track across the country. Seems that i can get a fix anywhere, as long as i'm willing to hold it up to the window.
Accurate !!!!! Very good reception. I have traveled araound 400 miles using this GPS in my Ipaq hx2755 and I have to say that this gadget is very, very accurate and reliable, I have no complaints and I am very pleased with it. I am using it with Ostia Pharos map software for Pocket PC and I its been a great tool in my vacation. I do recomend the use of a car charger when using it on a vehicle for prolonged time since the unit uses considerable amount of power. if you need a CF GPS i trully recomend this item.
